REJONES
The “Corrida de Rejones” o “Rejoneo” is defined by the following essential elements:

The “Rejoneador” or mounted bullfighter fights on horseback, assisted by secondary bullfighters on foot. Bullfighting on horse back requires enormous skill and great horsemanship. the understanding between the rejoneador and the horse must be absolute. There can not be mistakes. The horse must quickly understand the orders of the rider.

Some of the most famous Rejoneadores are: Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza, Leonardo Hernandez, Diego Ventura, Andy Cartagena, Lea Vicens, Raul Martín Burgos, Sergio Galán, Francisco Palha, Rui Fernandes, Luis Rouxinol, Oscar Borjas.

The horses fight without protection They are different from any other horses. They have an extraordinary strength , they are very fast and able to react very quickly to unexpected situation of danger. They are trained hard for a long time .

In Bullrings of first category, the bulls must weigh at least 470 Kg and must be between 5 and 7 years old. Victorino Martín, Miura, Fuente Ymbro, Dolores Aguirre, Samuel Flores, Parlade, Victoriano del Río, are some of the most famous stockbreeders.

The “ Corrida de Rejones” is divided into three main phases (Tercios): a) Tercio de Varas, in which the “Rejoneador”, with his short lance (Rejon de Castigo), steps forth to weaken the Bull`s strength. b) Tercio de Banderillas, in which the “Banderillas” jab the Bull’s neck. C) Tercio de Muerte, during which time the Bull is put to death. .
Once the bull is dead, the audience, by applause and whistles, judges the rejoneador ́s performance and, as such, influences the final ruling from the president.
People have always a lot of fan attending Corridas de Rejones because they are extraordinarily exciting and beautiful.
Currently four Corridas de Rejones are held in Las Ventas Bullring of Madrid every year.
